Tien Beach. One of the most photogenic beaches on Koh Larn, known for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy shores, and selfies with the local celebrities — a flock of friendly geese.
Place Description
Tien Beach on Koh Larn is arguably one of the most Instagrammable spots on the island. Expect vibrant turquoise waters and fine, almost white sand. It’s a buzzing hotspot with jet skis zipping by, tourists renting kayaks, and plenty of visitors, especially on weekends. Popular with both tourists and Thai families for day trips.
The beach is located on the western side of the island, within walking distance from Samae Beach. The main attraction here isn’t architecture but the tame geese that wander to the water around 8 AM. Another photographer’s delight is the solitary sprawling tree by the water. Despite its popularity, the beach offers a few cafes with reasonable prices and plenty of tree shade, making it quite comfortable.
Basic Information
- Address: Koh Larn Island, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi 20150. Easily found via island signs.
- Opening Hours: Open 24/7, but amenities (cafes, sunbed rentals) operate roughly from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Best Time to Visit: Early morning (8:00-11:00 AM) to catch the geese, take photos without crowds, and avoid the intense heat. Water recedes notably in the afternoon.
- Budget: Sunbed rental ≈ 100 ฿, goose feed (vegetables) ≈ 20 ฿. Food and drinks at standard island prices.
Why Go
- Clear water and white sand: The beach truly resembles a postcard — perfect for swimming and stunning photos.
- Famous geese: The main attraction is the flock of geese that come to the water in the mornings. A great opportunity for unique photos.
- Water activities: Rent a kayak, ride a jet ski, or try parasailing.
- Gently sloping entry: The gradual depth increase makes this beach convenient and safe for families with small children.
Insider Tips
- Watch the bridge: The wooden bridge leading to the beach is in poor condition in places. Watch your step, especially with kids.
- Mind the tide: After noon, the water retreats, revealing a rocky bottom. Swimming becomes uncomfortable, so plan your visit for the first half of the day.
- Ample shade: Unlike many other beaches, trees along the shore offer free shade if you prefer not to pay for a sunbed.
- Persistent geese: The birds are used to people and can be pushy, demanding food. They might nip occasionally, so be cautious.
Logistics
- Tuk-Tuk (Songthaew): Motorbike taxis (≈ 40-50 ฿ per person) and songthaews run from Na-Ban or Tawaen Pier on Koh Larn. Just tell the driver “Tien Beach.”
- Taxi (Bolt/Grab): These services don’t operate on the island. Use local motorbike taxis or songthaews.
- Own Transport: If you rent a bike on Koh Larn (≈ 200-300 ฿/day), there’s a small parking area near the entrance. Finding a spot can be tough during peak hours.
The Unique Factor
This is the only Tien Beach on Koh Larn with its own “gang” of geese, who’ve become so popular that for many tourists, they’re the main draw, not just the sea.
