Elephant Sanctuary Pattaya (ศูนย์อนุรักษ์ช้างพัทยา)
“This sanctuary is a peaceful retirement home for rescued female elephants. It is a rare chance to see these majestic animals living their best lives in a strictly ethical environment.”
Description
This Elephant Sanctuary in Pattaya is the antithesis of commercial farms where animals perform tricks. Families and conscious travelers come here to witness the love and care given to these giants. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, with staff and guides (especially a humorous Mr. Kangaroo) sharing each elephant’s story. Located away from the city hustle, it’s about a 30-40 minute drive from Pattaya’s center, past the Sukhumvit highway.
Interactions with the animals occur in small groups to minimize stress. All elephants are female, rescued from hard labor in circuses or logging. They roam freely over a large area, and the entire program revolves around their natural behavior: feeding, bathing, and mud treatments. It’s not just a tour but a truly touching and educational experience that leaves you with bright memories.
Why visit
Insider tips
💡 Book well in advance, especially for popular half-day tours with full activities—the spots fill up fast.
💡 Bring a swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes. You'll be given a special shirt for bathing, but you'll still get soaked.
💡 The road to the sanctuary, especially the last kilometer, is narrow and bumpy. Be cautious if riding your bike.
💡 Restrooms and showers on-site are very clean, with shower gel available. There's no hair dryer, so hair will dry naturally.
