Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a songthaew cost?

The fixed rate is 15 baht per trip anywhere within Pattaya city limits, regardless of distance. This is the official rate. If a driver quotes a higher price, use our planner to confirm the correct fare.

How do I properly hail a songthaew?

Wave silently at an approaching songthaew — they're always looking for passengers. Don't ask the driver "Are you going to...?" or "Will you take me there?" — this signals you want a private taxi, which will cost 3–4 times more. Just wave and jump in the truck bed.

How do I get off at my stop?

Ring the bell 20–30 meters before your stop. The driver will hear it and pull over. Get down quickly, say thank you, and hand over the 15 baht.

Do songthaews run at night?

Main routes run from approximately 6 AM to 8 PM. For evening trips, use the Grab app, motorcycle taxi (red vests with logos), or regular metered taxis.

Can I take a songthaew from the airport?

No, songthaews don't run to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Use the Grab app, book a pre-arranged transfer via 12Go.asia or Kiwitaxi, or take the airport shuttle bus to central Pattaya.

What payment methods do songthaews accept?

Songthaews only accept cash (Thai baht). Always carry small bills (20, 50, or 100 baht). If you're out of cash, use Grab or find an ATM.
