Chonburi Immigration Office. The go-to spot for all expats and long-term tourists handling visa extensions and submitting 90-day reports.

Place Description

This place epitomizes Thai bureaucracy. Expect noise, crowds from around the globe, and endless waiting. The vibe is not set by palm trees but by the rustle of paperwork, the hum of electronic queue numbers, and muttered curses in dozens of languages. The main immigration office in Pattaya isn’t a tourist spot but a necessary stop for anyone looking to stay longer in Thailand. Located on the lively Jomtien Beach Road, you can dive into the sea or hit a nearby bar right after your bureaucratic quest.

Despite the overall chaos, many note that the process has become slightly more organized over the years. Some staff genuinely try to help and work efficiently. However, the system remains complex: multi-step document submissions, moving between windows and halls, and lengthy waits for passports. If forms aren’t your thing, agents on-site will handle everything for a small fee, a popular way to save your nerves.

Basic Information

  • Address: 75/265 Moo 12, Jomtien Beach Road, Pattaya City. Look for the large government building right on Jomtien Road.
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Note: lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and document submissions for some services may end earlier.
  • Best time to visit: As early as possible in the morning, ideally by 8:00-8:30 AM, to get in line. Afternoons are peak busy times.
  • Budget: Tourist visa extension ≈ 1900 ฿. Form assistance and photos on-site ≈ 200 ฿. Cash only.

Why Go

  • The only official place in Pattaya for extending most types of visas.
  • Option to submit a 90-day report (though online service is also available).
  • On-site services: photos, photocopies, and form assistance.
  • Some staff, based on reviews, genuinely try to help and speak English.

Insider Tips

  • Arrive early! Even at 8:50, you might get queue number 112 with a ticket for 1:00 PM. Use the QueQ app to track your number without waiting for hours.
  • Bring cash. Visa fees (1900 ฿) are cash-only, no cards accepted.
  • The process is multi-step: document check, ticket receiving, submission, payment, and finally, passport collection. The whole ordeal can take 3 to 10 hours.
  • If unsure about your documents, it’s easier to pay 200 ฿ at the kiosk at the entrance. They’ll take your photo and fill out all forms for you, reducing the risk of rejection and repeat queuing.

Logistics

  • Tuk-tuk (Songthaew): Take the white songthaew running along Jomtien Beach Road. It passes right by the immigration office. Standard fare is 10 ฿.
  • Taxi (Bolt/Grab): Search for “Chonburi Immigration Pattaya”. Access is usually clear, but expect traffic jams on Jomtien during peak hours.
  • Own transport: There’s bike parking, but finding a spot can be tough. Car parking is even harder, especially in the morning. It’s best to arrive by motorbike or taxi.

The Unique Factor

This is a true cross-section of Pattaya society, where a German retiree, a Russian IT specialist, an Indian family, and a British bar owner might all stand in line for hours, united by one great goal—to get that coveted stamp.
