Pattaya City Sign. This is the huge Hollywood-style sign on the hill where everyone goes for panoramic shots of the city and bay.

Place Description

Arguably the most famous viewpoint in Pattaya, it’s a classic stop on the tourist trail. During the day, the concrete can be scorching, but in the evenings, a colorful crowd gathers: tourists with cameras, joggers, and couples admiring the sunset. The letters themselves are a bit worn by time, but the view of the city bustle and Bali Hai Pier makes up for it. It’s completely free and always accessible.

The site is located on Phra Tamnak Hill, near the Big Buddha, making it convenient to combine visits. People arrive on foot or by bike. Despite its popularity, it doesn’t feel crowded like Jomtien Beach does—the space is ample and there’s room for everyone to snap a photo. The vibe is more contemplative, especially when the city lights up below.

Basic Information

  • Address: Phra Tamnak Hill, near Bali Hai Pier. Plus Code: 7M5X+R4 Pattaya City, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri
  • Hours: Open 24/7, but lighting is dim at night.
  • Best Time to Visit: An hour before sunset (around 5:00-6:00 PM) to catch both day and night views.
  • Budget: Free entry. Nearby cafes offer water or coffee.

Why Go

  • For the classic panoramic view of Pattaya—the entire curve of the bay from Bali Hai Pier to the north of the city is laid out before you.
  • To take those iconic photos with the giant letters against the city backdrop, especially at sunset.
  • To get some exercise: there’s an outdoor public sports area nearby.
  • For a meditative moment: in the evening, when the heat subsides, it’s pleasant to sit and watch the city’s night lights.

Insider Tips

  • Be careful with navigation: Google Maps might direct you up a poorly maintained road. Look for pedestrian paths and stairways leading up from the base of the hill.
  • Be cautious late at night. Reviews often mention packs of stray dogs that can be aggressive in the dark.
  • It’s nearly impossible to photograph the entire “Pattaya City” sign with yourself in the shot—the letters are too large and the platform in front is narrow. Prepare for creative angles.
  • There’s almost no car parking. You can leave a bike along the road but be ready for a short uphill walk.

Logistics

  • Tuk-tuk (Songthaew): No direct route to the hill itself. You can take a ride along Thappraya Road (10 ฿) and then walk up for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Taxi (Bolt/Grab): Search for “Pattaya City Sign Viewpoint”. The car can get you almost to the top, but access might be tricky during peak hours.
  • Own Transport: The ideal choice is a scooter. You can park it on the roadside near the ascent. Finding car parking at this Pattaya viewpoint is quite lucky.

The Unique Factor

Many miss it, but if you head down from the sign towards the sea via a trail, you’ll discover a few secluded spots with even more impressive sunset views over the Gulf of Siam.
